Investing in Congregations: Convicted by Christ

Q&A with pastor and missionary Brian Myers

Convicted by Christ leaders pray over a man who had just been released from prison earlier that day.

“You’ve got what it takes. You’re doing a good job. I’m proud of you.”

For men coming out of incarceration or struggling with addiction, Brian Myers has witnessed the transformative impact of these simple affirmations time and time again.

Brian and his wife Rochelle serve in Farmington, New Mexico, with BIC U.S. World Missions. They also lead Convicted by Christ (CBC), a BIC church that ministers to men and women re-entering society after incarceration or recovering from addiction.

In March 2025, they purchased a permanent property with a loan from the BIC Foundation. We recently connected with Brian to hear more about their experience with the Foundation, how owning the property has impacted ministry opportunities, and their dream for the future.

Tell us about Convicted by Christ; how did it start and who does it serve?

Brian: In 2011, I founded Convicted by Christ with my friend Byron Boyd. Byron had been incarcerated for 16 years, and we saw the need for re-entry support. Sadly, Byron took his life a year and a half after getting out of prison, but we continued with CBC. It became an official non-profit in 2013 and a BIC U.S. congregation in 2023.

Convicted by Christ primarily serves men being released from New Mexico’s jails and prisons and men in various stages of addiction recovery. We also provide a support group for women in similar situations and children’s ministry for the children of these men and women.

How did you connect with the BIC Foundation to purchase this property?

Brian: We had been renting this property with three other ministries/churches when the owners asked if we wanted to purchase the property. The timing felt right, and the three other ministries agreed to continue their rental agreements, just now paying CBC.

Because CBC was a BIC church, we wanted to take advantage of the BIC Foundation loan options to purchase the property. CBC wasn’t sure if we could obtain a loan from the bank, and the remodeling and insurance costs created a bigger financial strain than we expected.

Along with three other organizations, Convicted by Christ has used this space for several years and jumped at the opportunity to purchase it in 2025.

What was it like to work with the Foundation?

Brian: The Foundation staff were very helpful in answering any questions we had. They were very professional, flexible, and timely in helping us complete the loan application process. They gave good counsel, advice, and instruction to guide CBC through the appropriate steps needed to complete a smooth loan process.

How has the new building impacted ministry opportunities?

Brian: CBC and the other partnering ministries now have a permanent location where we can make an impact in our local community. In one section of the property, we rented space out for a recovery wellness center to open, expanding local support for people recently released from incarceration and recovering from addictions. The property is also used to conduct classes for spiritual growth, inner-healing, and GED preparation.

CAYA Ministries recently used Convicted by Christ’s facility for their graduation celebration.

What’s your hope for the future of Convicted by Christ?

Brian: Our hope is to continue to expand and grow God’s Kingdom not only with those being released from incarceration and in the addiction community, but for men, women, and children seeking to know and grow in Christ. CBC also hopes to make the property available to the local community to hold weddings, funerals, graduations, and other special events in a space where they can experience God’s presence, his son Jesus Christ, and the workings of the Holy Spirit.

How does the BIC Foundation fund projects like this?

BIC Foundation (BICF) funding comes from individual and organizational investments. BICF investors receive industry-competitive rates and know their investments further the mission of the Church.
